Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes Cinnamon swirl pancakes at the Shelburne Farms Inn, a heritage property in Shelburne, VT…

I enjoyed this this stunning bottle of Sonoma cab at the Hollywood Bowl last night. Believe me, the fireworks in the bottle were far more impressive than those on stage. It is technically a cab because of it’s 75% cabernet content, but the remaining 25% Malbec makes it more of a Bordeaux-style blend.

What a wild ride this summer has been. It all started with a three-day, cook-and-run flyer to Slovakia where I prepared a surreal meal for 300. Then, along with the Glutton crew, I traveled to Jacksonville, TX, Granby, QC, Toronto, Walla Walla, WA, Yuma, AZ and Taipei, Taiwan. Week of August 30 – Beef Noodle Soup Taiwan’s famous beef noodle soup. Melt-in-your-mouth tender beef in a spicy soy-based broth with fresh noodle. Served with salted, preserved greens.

Attempting to break another Guinness World Record—one grain of rice at a time. Make sure to catch all the action on the next season of “Glutton for Punishment.”

Week of August 23 – Becker Steinhauer 2008 A classic kabinett. Peachy fruit notes perfectly balanced with racey acidity. Pairs well with the dog days of summer. About $15 at the LCBO (Ontario).

Week of August 16 – Heirloom Salad The roofgarden heirloom salad at Parts and Labour, Toronto

Week of August 2 – Chicken Taco This chicken taco is from an amazing Mexican stand called Mexicali Taco & Co. It pops up five nights a week in an empty parking lot in downtown Los Angeles at the corner of 1st and Beaudry. They specialize in flame-broiled tacos and Vampiros—grilled quesadillas made with with [...]

Week of July 26 – Imagery Dragonsleaf Red Sonoma Mountain 2006 This is an old-world style Rhone blend from Imagery Estate Winery, a small winery owned by the Benziger Family winery in Sonoma. This wine has all the complex, barnyardy notes (in all the best senses of the descriptor!) of a wine that is twice [...]
